Noah Kahan - Cape Elizabeth (Aqua Vinyl)
Noah Kahan – Cape Elizabeth is an intimate collection of songs that captures the reflective, emotionally direct songwriting that has become a hallmark of Noah Kahan's music. Originally released as an EP in 2020, the project was written during a period spent in his native Vermont and explores themes of relationships, loneliness, change and the complicated pull of home.
Featuring tracks such as "A Troubled Mind", "Glue Myself Shut", "Maine" and "Anyway", Cape Elizabeth strips Kahan's sound back to its essentials, placing acoustic instrumentation and his distinctive vocals at the heart of the recordings. The understated arrangements give the songs a warm, personal quality, allowing the storytelling and emotional detail to take centre stage.
The release provides an interesting bridge between Kahan's earlier work and the folk-influenced direction he would later develop more fully on Stick Season. Its themes of place, belonging and introspection would become increasingly important to his songwriting, while the relaxed production gives the collection a wonderfully natural feel.
Cape Elizabeth has become a firm favourite among Noah Kahan fans, offering a beautifully understated snapshot of an artist developing the sound and lyrical voice that would eventually bring him international success.
